HOW TO ARRIVE?

Option 1:
From the A II in Guadalajara we take detour 58 (ronda norte) which will take us straight to the Fontanar road. This is the local CM 101 that leads to Humanes. It is not necessary to go into the town, because at the traffic circle before reaching Humanes we take direction Jadraque, and when we reach a second traffic circle, the detour to Tamajón CM 1004. In Tamajón itself we cross the village and we will stop at a fork in the road. On the left hand side we take the road that leads to Majaelrayo. The landscape is worthy of being photographed but also quite winding. Following the road, the first black village is Campillejo.

Option 2:
Another alternative is to take the A I, road to Burgos. We turn off at Torrelaguna on the M 102, and pass through Patones. Then we turn off on the CM 1002 to El Cubillo de Uceda. There we take the local CM 1001 to Puebla de Beleña. And in this town we look for the CM 1004 that leads to Tamajón.
The rest of the way is the same as the previous explanation.
The nearest gas station is in Fontanar, about 50-odd kms coming from Guadalajara. We recommend you to come with a full tank of gas in case you want to make excursions and move around the area. On the other hand, the only ATM is in Tamajón, so it is better to bring cash because not everywhere it is possible to pay by credit card.

Campillejo is a hamlet of Campillo de Ranas. It is located in the foothills of the Ocejón peak (2,048 m.) and near Majaelrayo. Integrated in the well-known route of the Pueblos Negros and the natural park of the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara

The route of the black towns is a territory that belongs to the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara Natural Park. It is located in the North of Castilla la Mancha and borders to the northwest with Riaza (Segovia), to the west with the Sierra de la Puebla de Madrid and to the northeast with Soria.
As an emblem of the area, the Tejera Negra beech forest stands out: the last beech forest in southern Europe. In 2017 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, as an extension of the primary beech forests of the Carpathians or other regions of Europe.
The Ocejón peak structures the slate towns in two valleys. To the west are Campillejo, El Espinar, Roblelacasa, Campillo de Ranas, Robleluengo and Majaelrayo. There are also La Vereda and Matallana, belonging to the municipality of Campillo de Ranas. To the east of the Ocejón, are Almiruete, Palancares, Valverde de los Arroyos and Umbralejo. Known as the towns of golden architecture.
